Director's Journal:
Eve was a real breakthrough for me as a filmmaker. I had developed a disjointed narrative style with my other films, and the themes they explored (love and relationships) had been treated in a rather superficial way. With Eve, my aim was to develop a cohesive storyline and to explore different subject matter.

The idea for Eve came out of a very dark period in my own life. The personal torment I was experiencing at the time literally became the world of the GenLab. For me, Eve had to be sci-fi because any world that terrifying could only exist in an alternate reality.

What I was most concerned with in the film was creating an atmosphere of fear and isolation. While writing this script, I kept envisioning a scene where a woman stands silent as she is devoured by wild dogs. It is this feeling that I wanted to evoke in the film. I wanted to create a world where every aspect eats away at Eve's soul yet she remains strong and fights, by any means necessary, to survive.

For me the story was about alienation, self-hatred, challenging the system, and the determination to survive. Although not explicitly so, I believe Eve to be my most personal film. Filmmaking is always good therapy!

I owe everythinng to the terrific crew I had and the amazing talents of my DOP Vanessa Quintal and my Art Director Barbara Uhde.
