Synopsis:
Ten Thousand Roses is a journey into the “soul” of Canadian Feminism.

Using Judy Rebick’s book as her guide, filmmaker Karen Cho sets out on road trip across Canada, and through time, to uncover the stories of women who took part in a revolution that forever changed the status of women worldwide, and to find where Feminism “lives” in Canada today.

From free abortion on demand to violence against women, childcare, employment equity and more, Ten Thousand Roses will explore the issues that mobilized a country and sparked a grass-roots revolution. The film will also look at the legacy of the feminist movement and its fierce backlash.

In this “post feminist” era of “equality” does feminism still matter? What does this rich history mean to us and are young women continuing the feminist dialogue? Ten Thousand Roses will look at the future of feminist organizing through the lens of a younger generation of women and men who are challenging, expanding, diversifying, and re-defining what it means to be a “feminist” today.

Scenes of cavalcades across the country, guerilla theatre, protests, occupations, lobbying, strikes and direct actions will awaken the past - and present - struggles, challenges and victories of the Canadian Women’s movement. Along the way, we will meet inspiring Canadian and Quebecoise women who have fought and continue to push for social change.

Ten Thousand Roses will take us across the county from the 1960s through to today on a journey to discover the legacy of “one of the most far-reaching movements of 20th century” and the young women who are re-shaping that legacy today.
